The Next Piece

Two original collages have left the walls at Sunrise Cellars.

What I didn't expect was how much that would change my creative momentum.

Selling those pieces didn't create a deadline. It created an opportunity.

There was still time left in the residency, and I wanted to use it. I found myself back in the studio with a new sense of urgency—not pressure, but excitement. The opportunity to continue adding work to the exhibit pushed me to create faster and trust my process.

This week, I finished a new piece, loaded it into my car, and drove straight to Sunrise Cellars. Within hours of finishing it, it was hanging on the wall for people to see.

I've never experienced that before.

Usually, there is a long stretch of time between creating something and sharing it. This time, the work went directly from my studio into the exhibit. My husband hung it in the same spot where another piece had recently found its collector, I took a quick video, and we left.

It was a simple moment, but it felt surreal.

This residency has reminded me that the work doesn't have to be perfectly planned before it is shared. The collection on display is simply what I was creating at this point in time—and now I have the chance to continue building on it while the exhibit is still alive.

The residency only lasts through September. My goal is to make the most of that time: to keep creating, keep sharing, and allow the work to continue finding the people it was meant for.
